How To Order Custom Wood Vents
Whether you are a home owner, an architect, or a builder, wood HVAC registers might not be part of your every day work. Don’t worry! We are here to help.
The biggest tips we have for you in terms of ordering wood vents are:
- Take Pictures! This will help us understand what vent may work best for the location, and if there are any obstacles in the way. Often times we can customize the vent to accomodate base molding, stairs, cabinet trim, etc.
- Measure twice, and tell us what you measured! You will hear us refer to measurements as Duct Opening (D.O), and Overall Dimension (O.A.D). Depending on what type of vent we are speaking about (insert style, flush no frame style, or flush with frame) the Overall Dimension will affect your floor (or wall, or ceiling) differently.

Customer Example - Alex in New York
In 2016 I got a phone call from Alex. He needed two vents to replace older wooden vents that were coming apart. The email went as follows:
I finally got around to measuring those floor grilles. I have two: one is 23 1/16 x 12 1×16 and the other is 25 1/4 x 12 1/8. I’ve attached photos.
I’d ideally like something to match our floors with a bit of a lip past the opening. As you can see, the floor in the area is a little banged up.
If you have a better suggestion, I’m certainly open to other options.
Alex was happy to know we could cut the flange off of part of the vent to eliminate any clearance issues with the stairs. He also sent us a sample of the flooring to stain and match the vent. Results are below
